The UK and Ukraine have reached a financial assistance agreement. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who came together in the capital London, attended the signing ceremony after their meeting. At the signing ceremony attended by Starmer and Zelenskyy, British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergiy Marchenko signed a loan agreement covering 2.74 billion euros in financial assistance to support Kiev’s defense capacity. It was announced that the financial assistance will be repaid with the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said, “This agreement is part of the UK’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people.” Reeves announced that this agreement was made in addition to the £3 billion in annual funding that the UK allocates to Ukraine.
"This money is intended to help protect Ukraine's territorial integrity," Reeves said. The British minister stated that the financial support would also strengthen the security and prosperity of the whole of Europe.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Marchenko, who connected to the signing ceremony remotely, stated that Ukraine was very grateful for the signing of this "very essential" agreement.
Zelenskyy arrived in the UK today after the tension he experienced with US President Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office yesterday and was warmly welcomed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Starmer expressed the UK's full support for Ukraine and Zelenskyy during his meeting with Zelenskyy.
