Palestinian groups held a demonstration in support of Palestine in Berlin, Germany. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered around Checkpoint Charlie, a historic and touristic landmark in Berlin and a crossing point of the former Berlin Wall, to protest Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. The demonstration, which called for "Solidarity with Palestine, Stop the genocide in Gaza, No arms deliveries to Israel," drew approximately 300 participants, who chanted slogans in support of Palestine.
German police cracked down on protesters
German police, in turn, cracked down on protesters. Tensions were initially escalated when a young woman, a supporter of Palestine, was detained during the demonstration, which involved over 100 police officers. Police intervened harshly to disperse the young people chanting slogans towards the end of the demonstration, further escalating tensions. Another protester was forced to the ground, subjected to physical assault by police, and her clothing was torn.
Police pursued the protesters after the demonstration.
Following the arrest of numerous protesters, protesters reacted to the police. Tensions between the protesters and the police continued for a long time. After the police announced the end of the demonstration, Palestinian supporters chanted slogans and left the area. When some protesters continued chanting slogans as they marched down the street, the police intervened again. The police surrounded the protesters and prevented them from advancing for a long time. Later, the police allowed the protesters to leave and pursued them to the train station.
Some protesters were injured and many were detained as a result of the police intervention. No details have yet been released regarding the number of injured and detained protesters.
On the other hand, a small pro-Israeli group also protested right across from the area where the demonstration in support of Palestine took place.
