According to a report by Reuters, citing a senior U.S. official and three sources, it has been suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration plans to revoke the temporary legal status of approximately 240,000 Ukrainians fleeing Russian attacks. It was stated that the move, expected to be carried out in April, would lead to the swift deportation of the Ukrainians. It was reported that the plan to withdraw protective measures for Ukrainians began before Trump’s argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week. The sources said the move was part of the Trump administration’s efforts to revoke the legal status of more than 1.8 million immigrants who were allowed to enter the United States under temporary humanitarian evacuation programs initiated under Biden.
The Biden-era programs also covered 240,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, as well as 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, and more than 70,000 Afghans who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.
