The US will increase the number of troops on the southern border. The senior US official, whose name was not disclosed, announced that the US military is preparing to send 1,500 additional troops to the Mexican border after President Donald Trump declared an emergency state to combat illegal immigration across the country’s southern border, without specifying exactly when the troops will be deployed.
In an executive order he signed after taking office, Trump instructed the US Department of Defense to increase the number of troops to ensure full operational control of the US southern border.
There are currently 2,200 soldiers and thousands of National Guardsmen on duty on the Mexican border.
