US President Donald Trump made a written statement following his approximately 2.5-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump stated that his phone call with Putin was very good and productive, saying, "We agreed on an immediate ceasefire for all energy and infrastructure goals. During this process, we pledged to work swiftly for a full ceasefire and ultimately an end to this terrible war between Russia and Ukraine."
Reiterating that this war would not start when he was president, Trump said, "Many articles of the peace agreement were discussed. Both President Putin and President Zelenskiy want this war to end. This process has now fully begun and I hope, for the sake of humanity, we will accomplish this work."
