In a statement made by Finnish telecom operator Cinia, it was reported that minor damage was detected to the C-Lion1 submarine fiber optic link connecting Finland and Germany. However, it was reported that there was no impact on the functionality of the cable. Swedish Police Spokesperson Mathias Rutegard announced in a statement that the damage occurred in the Swedish economic zone and that they were investigating the issue. Rutegard said, "The preliminary investigation is related to suspected sabotage." The Swedish Coast Guard has sent a ship to the area to assist in the investigation of the incident that occurred off the coast of Gotland Island. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said the government had been informed and that the damage to the submarine infrastructure was "worrying" due to the current security situation.
Cinia's C-Lion1 cable, which was completely severed last November and December, has been damaged for the third time.
