The Shiri Bibas crisis between Hamas and Israel continues. Following Israel’s announcement that the remains handed over to Israel as Bibas’ body did not belong to the captive, Qatar-based Al Jazeera television made a new claim. Citing an unnamed source, the report reported that Hamas recently handed over Shiri Bibas’ body to the Red Cross following the confusion.
Israeli media confirmed it
According to reports in Israeli media, an Israeli official said that the Red Cross had received a body from Hamas. It was reported that the Red Cross had taken action to deliver the coffin to Israeli forces.
“The reports are being investigated”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) made a statement indicating that the reports were being investigated and that “IDF representatives are in contact with the family.” It
had been claimed that the body belonged to a Palestinian woman
Hamas had delivered the bodies of 32-year-old Shiri Bibas and her children 4-year-old Ariel Bibas and 10-month-old Kfir Bibas, who were killed in Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip yesterday as part of the first phase of the cease-fire agreement, to the Red Cross. In a statement today, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the identity of the body, stated to be that of Shiri Bibas, could not be confirmed. Hamas, on the other hand, had made a statement saying, “We draw attention to the possibility of confusion in the bodies as a result of the bombing by the occupation forces of the place where the family was located with other Palestinians. We will inform the mediator brothers of the results of the examination we conducted. We also demand the return of the body, which the occupation claims belongs to a Palestinian woman killed in the bombardment.”
