An alarm has been issued at the Big Ben Clock Tower, an icon of England. The man who climbed the Big Ben Clock Tower barefoot and unfurled the Palestinian flag has not yet come down despite hours of negotiations with emergency services. The man, who had been waiting on a ledge a few metres above the tower in Westminster Palace for hours, reportedly told the police, “I am safe.”
The Met Police stated that officers were called to the tower at 07.24 local time, and Westminster Bridge was closed to traffic following the incident. At least nine emergency services vehicles were dispatched to Bridge Street in central London.
Footage from the scene showed three emergency responders climbing onto the fire department ladder platform and using a megaphone to speak to the man on the ledge.
