Christmas excitement has given way to fear in Germany. A vehicle plowed into a crowd at a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg. German media reported that at least 1 person died and many were injured in the incident. Footage recorded by bystanders with their mobile phones showed many people lying on the ground. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody after the incident.
Local government spokesman Matthias Schuppe stated that the incident was an attack, while German police announced that the Christmas market was closed and a comprehensive investigation was launched into the incident.
