The death toll has increased since Hurricane Milton, which made landfall in the US state of Florida as a Category 3 storm. US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced at a press conference at the White House that at least 10 people died due to Hurricane Milton and that these deaths were caused by tornadoes.

Tornadoes that occurred in the Spanish Lakes Communities area, where elderly people live in St. Lucie County on the east coast of Florida, caused the deaths of at least five people.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated that the state had avoided a "worst-case scenario" but stressed that the damage was still significant. DeSantis stated that 19 tornadoes were confirmed across Florida on the day Milton made landfall. The National Weather Service reported about 45 tornadoes in the central and eastern parts of the state throughout the day. Americans who had sheltered from the hurricane began returning home on their own.
